I do mostly backend dev, plus Ops. Tools no bar as long as it solves problem. Nothing brings me more joy than visiting a new place or doing something new or breaking a fear. I also like to help people find new places/things to explore. If you are in a community that values that, sign me up. One of my basic beliefs - Regular Expression is God-Gifted.. Its hard to find something that can be so simple but so much useful.. All for these reasons, I end up using RegEx whenever I have some pattern matching business. And for that to be perfect, I need a cool RegEx validator.

This is something new I saw today.
While posting a comment in Facebook, for some unknown reason, it couldn’t be posted so facebook showed an error message and also provided a “Try Again” button!
Maybe it has been there for sometime, but never encountered it..!

Google recently introduced a new feature to be used with their search engine, sort of a plugin you can say, calling it the +1 button.. Now those of us who use internet forums, know very well what is the value of those two letters -> +1. Google took that idea and implemented it in their search engine.
…A Day with KWS(Kolkata Weekend Shoots)
I’ve been added to the KWS Facebook group for sometime. And being an amateur(read nOOb) photographer, I always wanted to meet others who are just like me or more expert and learn from them. Hence a photowalk was always welcome to me. So when I learned that KWS is going to hold a photowalk at West Bengal State Handicraft Expo 2011 at Milan Mela ground, I really wanted to join and started poking Kuntal for his secondary camera(Nikon Coolpix P90) for a day as I don’t have a camera myself. Well, luckily Kuntal managed it somehow and on that day, we went to the venue together.
…Selective/Conditional Update with Yum
The first thing I noticed after installing Fedora 14 was that there are updates available for my packages. And not a few, more than 400 updates! Sizing about 500mb!
Now, I use a lame internet plan of 256kbps. Updating all the packages in one go will make me keep this system on for about 5 hours. Thats not possible for me. So I needed a way to update few packages everytime and keep doing that whenever I find time.

Reading the title may make you feel it’s pretty simple - Download the flash player rpm package from adobe.com, install it and Done. I thought so too. But even if flash-plugin was installed, Firefox wasn’t detecting it. So did some old-style googling, and came up with these commands.

If you’ve read my blog before, you’ll know that I keep attending all the tech/web related events here. Thankfully, I’ve been able to collaborate with many active faces here and also brought together few more in that list. Yesterday (20th Feb ‘11) was a day full of fun and cheers coming from each and everyone.. Two Major bloggers’ meet on a single day. Heck, whattay day it was!
At the indiBlogger meet, there was a social networking session, where everyone has been given a white paper which they can hang on their back and go to other people, talk to them, introduce self and ask for a comment.. It was a really interesting session. Loved it. My piece of paper was full of comments written by people I hardly know, and also some people I’m lucky to know.. I’m gonna share the comments here, because I want to remember them. For an eternity..
