Avail Request Object in Django Form Validation

It may sometime happen that to validate a form field you need to check the value with some existing value from the database related to the User or some other entity. But sadly Django doesn’t allow accessing the Request object in the clean() or clean_<FieldName>() methods. Here is a way around it - 

All you need to do is override the default init() function of forms.Form with this - [python] def init(self, request, *args, **kwargs): self.request = request super(CreateTagForm, self).init(*args, **kwargs) [/python] Now when you call the Form, you can call it like - [python] form = YourForm(request, request.POST) [/python] Now the whole code will look like - [python] from django import forms

class YourForm(forms.Form): name = forms.CharField(max_length=50, min_length=1) mark = forms.IntegerField(min_value=1, max_value=100)

def __init__(self, request, *args, **kwargs):
    self.request = request
    super(YourForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

def clean_mark(self):
    marks_left = get_marks_left(self.request.user)
    # Do what more you want to do
