I was looking for a tool where I can write a little snippet in PHP and test it out/debug really quickly. First thought of something like these online compilers, like IDEONE. But it’s too heavy for my taste. I needed something faster. Yesterday, came across this blog post from Jordi Boggiano, who saved some work of mine(and lot of other developers) and made a tool that can run inside your browser, and let you run and debug PHP codes with ease, and it’s also FAST.
Being a PHP developer myself, I know how hard a work might get if you don’t know about functions that are appropriate to the situation. So, I thought of building a service that will let people discover new functions everyday, right on their wall(in case of Facebook) or timeline(in case of Twitter).
So I built PHPrefX. A service that keeps posting the name of a function, a short info and the link to the reference of that function once every hour on Twitter and Facebook.
If you use Wordpress for managing your blog or CMS, then you know how it automatically generate the permalink of a post when you just provide the title of the post. It takes the Title, removes special characters or replaces them with a hyphen(-).
Now, I was working on a project which required a news submission to Google news, for which I needed to fix an arbitrary 3 or more digit number to the permalink(Google requirement). So one way of doing that was to manually edit it each time i wrote a post. But that aint possible considering the frequency of posting. So I had to automate the process.
I started using IRC about 2 months ago. I know its lame of me to get to that stuff so late. But from the very point I logged into a channel, the thing that caught most of my attention was a Bot that used to respond to user command. Now that seemed interesting. I dug some codes in Github, did some Googling and got the idea. Then found a sample snippet of how to create an IRC bot with PHP, at www.thegeeks.us which wasn’t much functional to start with.. I started testing the code and thanks to Ben(spookz), one of the member(and most probably a co-founder too) of thegeeks.us, with some inspiration from him, I got this thing to work.
